Glacier...
Hit the road from Sandpoint Idaho this AM.Snicked bikes into gear at 8:03.(Actually BMW's "clunk" into gear). Headed northeast on highway 2 and arrived at west gate of Glacier National Park.Paid $12 for pass...this was senior discount.Cottonpicken ranger did not even ask my age, just gave me the discount...Speed limit sign says 35,kinda slow.In earlier blog we talked about how in more northern areas they build few roads and the ones they build are smack down the middle of the valley, long and straight. These roads take you to the mountains. The highway to the Sun in Glacier takes you on the mountains.Instead of just looking up at the montains, you are looking down from the mountains and into the valley. They seem a lot bigger from the top down.Glacier is absolutely spectacular, probably the highlight of the trip (and we have seen some serious highlights already) I was amazed, and right here in good old continental USA.Course all this beauty brings tourists , so a bit crowded, especially on a Saturday.Saw a couple of big fat black bears one at close range but we are seasoned critter watchers now so we did not jump up and down like neophyte tourists....boog
