From Anchorage to Homer and back again

With our wives in a rental van and us on our motorcycles, we motored from Anchorage to Homer. It rained the whole day and was cold, but just this side of Homer, the rain stopped and the sun peeked through. Even through the rain, the vistas were absolutely spectacular. We stayed in a local "beach front" motel that had a pathway to the ocean. Drove onto "The Spit" which is a fishing area on the peninsula of Homer. Neat little town with shops and restaurants and charters and fishing, etc. We saw one local who, with the assistance of his friend, dragged his catch of the day to his pickup truck and slung it into the bed. The Halibut weighed 183 pounds! The harbor was teeming with fishermen and tourists just like us.

Mitch and Fred did not make the trip to Homer. They stayed in Anchorage. Mitch bought a new bike - BMW GS. He and Fred were making it ready to continue our ride beginning Sunday. We kept in touch with them to make sure all was well.

Ate in the tea cup cafe at 9:30 in the evening - still looked like 3:00 in the afternoon. We are getting used to the long days.

The return trip today from Homer to Anchorage was gorgeous. The sun was out and the mountains were no longer clouded - beautiful. It's like you can't describe the beauty of Alaska.

As we passed the salmon fishing areas, the eagles were everywhere. Fisherman standing nearly shoulder to shoulder in the shallows.

Tomorrow we are off on a train to Seward for the day. Probably no post tomorrow as we won't be back until very late tomorrow night.

Hope you like the pictures - nothing does this place justice. BEAUTIFUL.
