Tok to Eagle Plains, Yukon, Canada

Tonight we are 30 miles from the Artic Circle. We left Tok, Alaska 2 days ago and rode up and across the Top of the World Highway which is all gravel. We stopped in Chicken, the last town in Alaska. We visited with the postmaster in the 15' x 15' post office. She had a fake chicken so we all had our picture taken with her and the chicken. Chicken is an old, gold-mining town, so we visited the musem which told the story of the gold rush days when Chicken was booming with 30,000 people. All but about 800 went home broke. The town is restoring all the buildings. Neat little town.

We left Chicken and rode up the dreaded Dempster Highway. It was all mud and gravel and very slick in places. We had to concentrate on the road to keep all the bikes and us in the upright position. It was a good day weather-wise, around 50 degrees and no rain. We are averaging 40-50 mph. Maybe we met 5 cars in 250 miles - not much traffic to say the least.

Now we are in western Canada. The Canadian Mounties had to explain to Smoke, Pawn Dog and Boog why they shouldn't be traveling 70 mph in a 40 mph zone. Warning.

Staying in Eagle Plains tonight. Everyone is still in good spirits and having a good time.

More later . . .

Don't you think Alaska is more beautiful than Hawaii? I sure do!
