Well, here we are half way down the Denali Highway which is actually a dirt/gravel road between Cantwell Alaska and Paxton Alaska. We left Anchorage and civilization this AM and headed off to the wilds.Ladies are flying back to Tennessee tomorrow and leaving us on our own.We road 250 mi. today including the 50 or so mi. down the Denali "Highway". Turned out to be a nice day weather-wise,even sunshine most of the afternoon. All the bikes are doing nicely especially Mongo's new BMWGS.Rode by Mt. McKinley, but it was socked in like it is 2/3 of th time.Scenery on the trip up was spectacular as usual. We really need to come up with some new adjectives to describe this place.Thr ride down the dirt road...I mean highway..was not too bad at a modest pace. Our lodging tonight is at Gracious House,a fishing and hunting camp along the road.It is as they say "rustic",but really cool. The folks here cooked us up some burgers which were mighty fine. This place also has a flying service to take sportsmen in and out of the backcountry.Runway is gravel. The airplane is a Piper Supercub with balloon tires and a modified wing for shortfield takeoffs. The pilot says the plane will "float in" to landing area at 30 miles per hour.Should be able to land that thing in a tree and walk away.Smoke and Blood just returned from a short ride down the way to take pictures of 2 female moose and their calves. They said they were successful.I have'nt seen the photo evidence though.Tomorrow we head down about another 80 mi. of the dirt/gravel highway to get back on pavement and eventually wind up in Tok.Right now the other guys are out on the front porch puffing away on cigars.Cigar smoke seems to be the only thing that discourages the giant mosquitos. These things are big and mean.Three of 'em attacked pawndog and tried to take him back to their nest ,but Beaver and Mongo were able to wrestle him away...all's OK now.............boog

Those bush planes are cool as hell, and the pilots are crazy. Would LOVE to get up there one day.
